I'm just writing to give you some information that you need to get your body ready for surgery in the weeks beforehand. I'm sure you are feeling a little nervous about it but please be reassured we have a really good team here ready to look after you

We would also like you to follow a ‘low residue diet’ for the 3 days prior to your bowel prep to help cleanse your bowel. | have enclosed an information leaflet so that you know which foods to avoid and which are ok to eat, please use this to avoid confusion.

You will need to attend for a Covid 19 swab test before you can come in to the hospital for your procedure or investigation

Please arrive at the time of your appointment. This is a drive through appointment you will not need to get out of your vehicle. Hospital transport can be used if required.

The Covid 19 test must be taken on this specific day unless your procedure day changes or you have advice from a member of the team providing your care after the date of this letter. 

If you require hospital transport please call 0300 0110 017 to arrange transport.

If you are unable to attend or have any queries about your upcoming procedure please call the area you are due to attend.

Please do not attend this appointment if you have any symptoms or you feel unwell.

Please note that if you cancel or turn down, without good reason, two suggested offers of admission, or fail to attend any agreed admission date, we may not be able to offer a further date. This will help us treat other patients waiting on the list as soon as possible

If you change your address, telephone number or GP, please let us know otherwise we will be unable to contact you to arrange your admission. If your condition changes whilst you are on the waiting list, please ensure you contact your GP immediately. If you decide that you no longer require the procedure at all, please contact us immediately so that another patient can take your place on the waiting list.

It is essential that you follow any instructions given below to ensure that you are safe to have your operation or procedure.

You will be having your procedure under anaesthetic or sedation 

Fasting Instructions for 07:00-08.00am admission time

Please follow below, unless you have been given alternative instructions The day before surgery, eat and drink as normal (unless you have been told otherwise)

On the day of surgery, do not eat anything after 2AM. Before 6AM we strongly encourage you to drink water, dilute squash or unsweetened tea/coffee (with NO MORE than one fifth milk). After 6AM you must not eat or drink anything or chew gum.

Prior to your appointment, if you are able to and you haven't already, please visit www.worcsacute.nhs.uk/pre-opguestionnaire and complete the questions and then securely share your answers with Worcestershire Acute Hospitals as this may save some time at your appointment. You will need to register if it is your first time using the system. 

You will need your email address and your casenote number which can be found on top right hand side of this letter.

Prior to your appointment your NHS Summary Care Record (SCR) will be available to view by the hospital staff involved in your care, unless you have opted out of having an SCR. Your SCR contains information from your GP record about your medications, allergies and any reactions to medicines. If you do not want our staff to access your SCR please notify the preoperative assessment team on the number listed please.

If your condition changes, please ensure that you contact your GP.
